Travel insurance 'straightforward' for gap years

People planning on travelling through countries such as Bangladesh on a gap year should find it "straightforward" to acquire insurance, according to one expert, possibly lessening the number of cheap international calls they will need to make regarding the matter.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said that getting the policy sorted out early is beneficial, and will make sure travellers do not forget as the trip draws closer. He explained that sorting insurance out from abroad can be much more difficult.
He advised that travellers should ensure everywhere they are visiting is covered and that every single planned activity is mentioned in the policy.
"While there should be plenty of chance to let your hair down on a whistle-stop trip around the world, bear in mind that many insurers will not pay out if it is found that you were inebriated or under the influence of drugs at the time of injury or robbery," warned Mr Hall.
This follows research from LV= which found that Brits are abandoning the traditional gap year for shorter trips, with the amount of those opting for a longer stint abroad decreasing by 69 per cent over the past five years.
