Coconuts 'on black market' in Sri Lanka

A coconut shortage in Sri Lanka has forced the government to stop spiralling prices of the dietary staple, according to reports, no doubt sparking cheap calls across the country.
AFP reports that the government set a maximum retail price of 30 rupees (£0.17) per coconut on Thursday (December 16th) but stocks soon ran out and black market activity increased with the fruit selling at double the price.
This is a dangerous trend in Sri Lanka, where the coconut is so important to citizen's diets, that past shortages have seriously impacted on politics.
The news organisation reported that a trade ministry official announced the government would begin importing coconuts from India and Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan parliament will now have the option of yoga sessions at work, the BBC reports.
The sessions are reportedly the idea of government MP and actress Malani Fonseka and will be held at the beginning of parliamentary sessions.
