Saving money for retirement 'is single most important financial plan'

Budgeting for retirement is the "single most important plan" that people can make, according to an expert.
"Ignoring it and sticking their head in the sand is the worst thing they can do," added Lucy Grubb, spokesperson for the Chartered Insurance Institute.
She urges anyone who either has a very small pension or does not have a pension at all to take action as soon as possible by speaking to a financial advisor.
Ms Grubb's words of advice may make interesting reading for savvy Planet Talk customers, who are saving money on a daily basis by making cheap international calls.
The latest survey by Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts has highlighted an alarming trend of falling pension values over recent years.
To achieve the same pension income as someone who retired a decade ago and had been contributing £100 per month gross, those retiring now would instead have needed to save around £355 gross per month, the study revealed.
