Dubai is set to attract even more global attention now that it is home to the world's tallest building, a travel expert believes.
The building, which is called the Burj Dubai, fits in with the destination's intention of standing out from the crowd, according to Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall.
"Whether anybody is going to travel specifically to see it is doubtful, but if you look at somewhere like Kuala Lumpur, which has got the Petronas Towers
it does help put a place on the map," he commented.
Mr Hall also pointed out that now might be a good time to snap up a bargain holiday to Dubai, due to the current economic problems.
Flight prices to Dubai are attractive and there are plenty of high-quality hotel rooms to entice the visitor, he added.
Emaar, the global property developer behind the Burj Dubai, has announced that the official height of the building's tower known as Burj Khalifa - is 828 metres.
The world's highest observation deck on level 124 of Burj Dubai opens its doors to the public from today (January 5th).
