Mother child relationship could be key to teen obesity rates

Teens are more likely to be obese if they have worse relationships with their mothers as toddlers, new research has suggested.
Those deemed to have the lowest quality relationships with their mothers as toddlers were around twice as likely to be obese as teenagers, compared to those who had closer bonds with their mothers when they were young.
Researchers conducting the Ohio State University study, published in the journal Pediatrics, suggested more needs to be done to improve mother child bonds rather than focusing on better exercise and eating regimes.
Lead author professor Sarah Anderson explained: "It is possible that childhood obesity could be influenced by interventions that try to improve the emotional bonds between mothers and children rather than focusing only on children's food intake and activity."
Researchers note that the findings mirror previous research study conclusions, with scientists claiming there are links between the area of the brain controlling emotions, stress responses and appetite.
