The Lion King becomes highest-grossing show on Broadway

The Lion King has been named as the highest-grossing show on Broadway by its creators, Disney.
It has earned $853.8 million since it opened in 1997, with its nearest rival being Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, which has grossed $853.1 million since 1998, reports BBC News.
Fans of the 1994 film The Lion King may be particularly eager to get their hands on some tickets as the musical is based on the animation with everyone's favourite lion cub Simba included.
The show overtook its rival over the long Easter weekend during which The Lion King made more than $2 million.
Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Shows, told the news provider: "Surely, introducing so many to the splendour of live theatre is our show's greatest legacy."
