One in 19 Afghan babies die during first month of life

Babies born in Afghanistan face some of the greatest risk to their health, according to new World Health Organization (WHO) figures.
Data suggests that one in 19 die within their first month of life, which will no doubt cheap international calls discussing what can be done to help address this problem.
India has the greatest number of newborn deaths annually, at 900,000 per year, with the figures revealing that just five countries account for more than half of the world's 3.3 million newborn deaths.
Commenting on the figures, Dr Joy Lawn of Save the Children explained: "We know that solutions as simple as keeping newborns warm, clean and properly breastfed can keep them alive, but many countries are in desperate need of more and better trained frontline health workers to teach these basic lifesaving practices."
Overall, the WHO report indicated that fewer newborns are dying worldwide, although authors noted that progress is still too slow in Africa in particular.
