Ghanaian doctors remain on strike

Doctors in Ghana have entered into a nationwide strike over pay, in news which is likely to spark cheap international calls from concerned friends and family back in the UK.
Beginning this weekend, the doctors are protesting against a failure by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, which means that salaries would now be based on a Single Spine Salary Structure.
A statement from the Ghana Medical Association claimed that: "Looking at the stands of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission it appears unlikely that any attempt is being made to address our concerns."
Dr Emmanuel Adom Winful, president of the association, told Joy News: "We have written even to the office of the president, so what else is there for us to do? Tell us."
The Association early on issued a statement announcing the strike action, explaining that it does not see its grievances addressed close of day Friday.
Peaceful protests remain ongoing and the strike is yet to be resolved.
