India claims child malnutrition report is shameful

Child malnutrition is likely to be a much-talked about topic in cheap calls to India after a new report was released.
The Hunger and Malnutrition report written by a group of non-governmental organisations found that nearly half of children in the country were underweight.
It also revealed that one in three malnourished children in the world is Indian, a figure which prime minister Manmohan Singh has called "unacceptably high".
Singh claimed: "The survey reports high levels of malnutrition, but it also indicates that one child in five has reached an acceptable healthy weight during the last seven years," a fact that he argued offered some signs of encouragement.
He said that the government will not rely solely on the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme to tackle the malnutrition problem and instead drinking water, sanitation and education must all be focused on.
