Cheap calls about Sudan Imperial boat could become tourism norm

Sudanese tourism officials are hopeful that they will soon be able to provide British visitors with plenty of stories to tell their friends about during cheap international calls.
Efforts are being made by locals in Khartoum to renovate the Bordein British steamer, which was integral to an important rescue mission along the Nile over a century ago.
Speaking to the Montreal Gazette, Khartoum minister for culture, media and tourism Mohamed Awad al-Barodi explained: "It is already starting to attract tourists.
"On Friday we were astonished that two buses of European tourists came to the area. It was not opening until the 26th of this month."
South Sudan recently appealed to investors for funds to help restore some of its war-hit wildlife parks.
Ministers are keen to boost tourism in the region, as it prepares for its much-anticipated formal independence from the oil-rich north of the country.
