UEA eases citizenship qualifications for more than 1,000 children

People wishing to call UAE should be aware citizenship restrictions on children born to foreign fathers by Emirati women have been eased.
In a move that will create greater gender equality, President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan has paved the way for 1,117 children born to Emirati women married to foreign men to become UAE citizens, the WAM News Agency reported.
It is hoped that the change in this policy, which will see these children become citizens of UAE at the age of 18, will be echoed in other Arab countries.
For a long time, Tunisia was the only country in the region to enable female nationals to pass citizenship to their children, with many other countries stating it could only be inherited through the male bloodline.
However, in 2005, Algeria followed suit by giving women this same right, with Morocco introducing the policy in 2007, which also enabled foreign men to gain citizenship after five years of marriage and residency.
UAE is one of the world’s fastest growing tourist destinations, with a population of more than eight million.
